Year 2's Day at the Mini Olympics

Kings Road Primary School Blog - 9 June 2010 - 3:26pm

On the 9th of June the whole of the Year 2's walked to Melbourne for the Mini Olympics. It was such fun!!! Half of us got tired after the opening ceremony, including me!!!! But we enjoyed it, we had some supporters Liz, Miss Lyons, Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Martin and a supply teacher because Miss Nokes, our teacher couldn't come. Mr Clow came with us.

Miss Nokes let me choose who we played for, I chose France and together we represented Kings Road. People were watching us like the Mum's and some others. We saw a few people who left our school, but they were playing for other countries.

The helpers were really kind, they showed us what we had to do and played good games. Me and my best friends were all in a group together, I'm surprised we were all in the same team, and there was only one boy in our group.

We sprinted against grown ups and all of us I think, beat them!!!! All the games were cool, I mostly enjoyed the sprinting, but all the games were fantastic.

When the winners were announced we came.....................Joint 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for separate people someone for the boys came first and he was in our class!!! You will hear more about him later.

We all did our best and wanted to come 1st place, but joint 2nd is all we could achieve and we hope we've done you proud Kings Road! But we're just overjoyed that we had this opportunity to take part in this massive competition to sponsor Essex water.

We all got a goody bag, a bottle of Essex or Suffolk water, a certificate and a comic. Back to the boy who won, out of all the boy pupils at Melbourne he got the most points!!!! For his prize he got a big golden medal and people in Kings Road screamed and shouted wildly as he stood up on the 1st place stand! I screamed quite loudly too! Loads of people were calling his name out, we were nutters!!!! Everyone was asking the boy questions. I said "It feels like you won the real Olympics!!!" He said back "Yeah it's amazing!!!!!!"

When we walked back to school it was quite tiring, my partner was Lily M07 on the blog here, I lost her half way back but other children were there and adults. I found her talking to the boy who won and we walked together on the way back. When we arrived we didn't have time to get changed so we washed our hands and were the last classes for lunch!!!!!!!!

I just thank the people at Melbourne doing the Olympics with us, and to the people who let us do this it's so cool!!!! I want to congratulate all of the Year 2's and other schools

My Half Term

Kings Road Primary School Blog - 3 June 2010 - 7:07pm

Thorpe Park.

Hello my name is Megan and on Tuesday me and my family went to Thorpe Park, I wasn't really looking forward to it as I don't like rollercoasters but it was a brilliant day out! Despite the weather (it was raining all day) me and my family still had a great time! As it was raining the queues weren't very long so I queued up and got on the rides in no time! I went on a ride called "Flying Fish" (I will post a picture at the bottom) about ten times! I went on the spinning tea cups about three times and the rapid ride three times! We had a really fun day out at Thorpe Park, if you would like to look at the website here is the address.... http://www.thorpepark.com/

Chessington.

On Wednesday we went to Chessington World Of Adventures, it was ok but not as good as Thorpe. First me, Hannah (my 14 year old sister) and Dad went on the swing ride, It goes up really high and then it leans over so at one point you are spinning around higher and sometimes you are lower,  jets of water near the ride also get you rather wet!! We went on this ride twice (I have put a picture at the bottom). Afterwards we went on the Dodgems and me and Hannah shared one and Dad was in his own one, as I was driving Dad kept bumping into us a lot!! I was just getting used to steering as when you steered left it went right, confusing! But I did manage to hit Dad and some other people! :) On the way back home it was very hot and there were traffic jams so.....our car over heated!!! It just stopped working and Dad had to get out and push it onto the Hard Shoulder, me and my sister quickly got out of the car and sat on the hill near the road for safety, Mum put the bonnet up so it could cool down and we all sat on the hill for over an hour waiting for the AA. Everyone was staring at us as they went past, but I suppose you would! Anyway, the AA man came and we got towed to a nearby car park thing where he fixed the car so we could get home, this took around 40 minutes, we weren't the only family to brake down as two other families' cars over heated as well. We left Chessington at around 3:30pm so we should've got home at around 5:00pm but instead we arrived home at 7:30pm! Here is the website link for Chessington and a picture of the swing ride....

 London.

Yesterday (Friday) me and my family went into London to meet some of our friends who live quite far away from us. First of we went to Camden Market and the weather was extremely hot, especially as we were in the city. We went round lots of the stalls and there were lots of food stalls so the people on the stalls kept talking to us offering us a sample, I just said no thank you and kept on walking ;). We looked at lots of different stalls and shops and we went into one shop called "Cyberdog" and it has lots of really funky clothes like: flashing t shirts, glow in the dark hats and really weird and wacky clothes and gadgets!! Its a shop you would go in on a night out though, hehe. All the staff had different styles like green hair, bright pink hair and really big shoes!! It has two really big robots outside the door as well. Later on we all went for lunch and me and my sister, Hannah had chinese while Mum and Dad had mexican wraps. After we had eaten by the cannal we met up again and sat outside with some drinks, I had lemonade. Later on me Mum and Dad went around the market and I bought a really pretty necklace and a ring, we then made our way back to the cannal where we met up again. We all got on a barge and went for a trip down the cannal with other families. After a while we went to London Zoo to pick up people on the boat, it was mainly children. Before they got on it was nice and peaceful then there was loads of shouting and lots of noise and we were fed up so instead of getting off at Camden we got off a Little Venice and went for a walk around. Later on we got a tube to Trafalgar Square and went to this place...It was part of E4 and it was a blow up stage and the stage outside was a shape of a cow, Im not sure what the thing is called but they have comedy shows in the evening, anyway we were allowed onto the ground around it but not in the stage so we were allowed to sit down and have a drink for as long as we want. This man came up to us while we were drinking and he said he wanted to practise his magic tricks. One of his tricks was he ate a piece of cotton and then pulled it out of his eye, YUCK! I think I know how did it as he had sunglasses on so...It was still disgusting though! He actually pulled cotton out of his eye!! :O The another trick he had was he had a pack of cards and he put them in Dad's hands, he did some other things and then he asked Dad to open his hands and there was a plastic block!! He must of put that in instead of the cards but it looked like he put the cards in!! AMAZING! He also did some card tricks and (all the cards were different) one of them was he had a specific card, he shuffled them and it was at the top! They were all different though as you could see they were, the he bent a card a put it in the middle of the pack so we could see it and then suddenly it just moved up the top! It was definitley the same one as only one was bent!! It had us all cuffufled for ages!! :) He was AMAZING and EXTREMLEY TALENTED!  Later on we went on the London Eye. When we were nearly at the top it stopped for a while but then it was moving again. It was really weird but at some point we actually went back in the opposite direction! There was a little boy and he was screeching all the way round it got kind of annoying!! After that we got a tube (to somewhere!) and had Mc Donalds, just before we left to go home. We arrived home at around 11:00pm but it was worth it!! :)

Life in Leather

Kings Road Primary School Blog - 2 June 2010 - 1:47pm

Today, we woke early to walk to the Tanneries in the old town of Fez. Moroccan leather has been produced for centuries and is well respected as the best in the World. The process was developed in medieval times and it is still in use today.

The smell in and around the tannery was incredibly strong and so we found a roof terrace from which to view the large dye pits filled with chemicals. This photograph shows the large pits.

Donkeys still carry the animal skins to these pits where they are cleaned in the white dye pits and then dunked in the coloured dye pits!

We later found out that animal waste mixed with ash is used to process the skins, no wonder it smelt horrid! Sadly the more appealing smells of indigo, saffron and poppy which are used for colouring, were simply over-powered by all the other scents!

The skins are left out in the sunshine to dry before being cut, stitched to make coats, bags and shoes.

He will have a try in Britain, too. I hope you have the same feeling in Britain now. Happy Children's Day to all the students  of Kings Road Primary School.

Flight to Fez, Morocco - Mid Atlas Mountains

Kings Road Primary School Blog - 31 May 2010 - 7:07pm

We arrived in Fez yesterday evening at a tiny airport having flown over the Mid Atlas Mountains. The well known Atlas Mountains are further South.

We had a great nights sleep and set about finding breakfast this morning. There is lots to choose from and the food is both colourful and flavoursome. The Souk (market) sells everything in compact stalls and we enjoyed looking at all the wonderful handmade pots and pans being made in the streets.

There are also some very good Market traders, which makes trying NOT to buy a carpet particularly challenging! If you return to school and find the main hall carpetted, you'll know where it's come from!

Hope everyone is finding lots to enjoy this half term. More later.

The Beach

Kings Road Primary School Blog - 31 May 2010 - 10:33am

As most of you know im on holiday in the New Forest! I've gone with my parents and my new puppy Percy. We came up here to this some relatives and we are staying with my auntie and my uncle. Yesterday we all went to the beach with my cousins Amber, Ellie, Millie and their dog Lottie! Lottie is 1 years old so is used to water. When we got there we headed straight to the beach where the waves were massive! Lottie ran straight into the water loike the speed of lighting and got soaked. But Percy isn't that used to water so kept on running away from the sea. My little cousin Millie ran in the water and was jumping over the waves while me and my other cousins sat on the rocks. After we played around for a bit we all lay down on the sand. Percy was having a nap when a giant wave came over him and got him sooooo soaked we all laughed as he was whimpering and cuddling up to us. When we left the beach we went to KFC. Me and Millie had popcorn chicken when all the others got burgers. After we ate our lunch we got a treat....... ICE CREAM!!! It was lovely! When we left I went back to my cousins house and played there for a bit.

After all that fun Percy is soo tired and so am I. Today we are going to a forest were there is a river. We are going to try an put Percy in it (Im sure he won't like it) I will see you all when I come back. If you don't know what my puppy looks like he is a little bit bigger than this one.....
